Where are you growing to? – Poem

Woman - Sunflowers

.

“You are rising too fast

You are aiming too high…

Courage is foolish –

Brave people die!”

.

‘Where are you growing to?’

‘Why such a rush? They’ll implore

‘It’s just your pride…’ They will add…

‘We don’t believe you should take the floor!’

.

Yes, one should challenge oneself

And one must question their thoughts…

Not to succumb to misleading voices

or misdirection of untamable wants…

.

Where are we growing to?

Are we growing at all?

Are we rising to greatness?

Or preparing to fall?

.

Reaching out to heavens,

Or in the other direction?

Are our minds filled with ego?

Or with divine perception?

.

If you’re growing the right way

There is no need to explain…

Critics won’t go away

They will forever remain…

.

So, keep on growing to where

You were created to grow…

Don’t let the skeptics define you

Enticing your mind to stay small

.

So… what about you?

Where are you growing to?

.

Our days are numbered you see

We have limited minutes and hours

After the danger of spring frost is past –

Have courage to bloom… like Sunflowers!

The Balancing Act Called Life…

At the musem - BarcelonaI believe in hard-work – it’s a good thing. However, too much of a good thing can be bad for you. Life should be a balanced experience – we all need to find (and keep on finding) our equilibrium.

Most people living in London (which is where I live) work super hard. Meeting up for a coffee is a challenge. You want to do it, but often don’t because of work, family responsibilities, school or whatever else. So, you live in the same city but do not get to see the people you’d love to see or do the things you’d love to do for years, sometimes.  Well, I want to be a lot more intentional about how I spend my time on this Earth!

La IglesiaBarcelona happens to be one of my favorite European cities. This week, I was blessed with 2 ‘take it easy’ days in the city. The weather was beautiful and the trip, although not entirely recreational, so refreshing. I’m not sure what you do for fun (what do you do?), but I enjoyed the old town’s beautiful churches, museums, colorful features and narrow streets. I only wish they were a little less crowded, but I guess there’s no perfect place under the Sun. Sometimes, we need alone time to relax. At other times, we need to share it with the people we care for. Laughing, talking, eating and sharing my time with this lady here (plus the music, of course) made the trip super special.

Back to the main point of this post – one morning, I was passing through the Las Ramblas boulevard and noticed La Equilibrista (The Balancer). She was petite and super focused which caught my attention. Of course, a yellow head-to-toe coverage and the fact they’re standing on a bike’s seat also helps you notice a person. 😊 I’ve digressed again, but check out her balancing act (the short video here). It may look like a passive activity, however, try this for about 30 minutes and I’m sure you’ll know that it’s not. Such is balancing in real life too – we cannot be passive if we’re going to stay balanced.

We’re surrounded by people and forces (sometimes intangible) pulling us in so many different directions. For most of us, our culture and surroundings encourage everything but a balanced life. Working hard is good, playing hard (reasonably) is good too and so is praying hard etc. However, we need a little bit of everything to be happy and fulfilled in life.

Barcelona Streets 1My recent trip to Barcelona was a treat indeed, so it was a little hard to say “Adios” in the end. But again, I remembered that balance is key and too much of a good thing can be bad for you…

When it’s time to go it is time to go (ask the Spaniard in the picture – he knows) 🙂 There’s a time for everything. Balancing is not passive, and it is an ongoing activity. So, take charge of your days and be intentional about how you spend or invest your time.

What do you do to stay balanced? I would love to know.

Oh, and take a moment to watch the video from my previous trip to Barcelona  – expect to see La Mercé, Partying and Music, The Giants, Museums and stuff… 🙂

Talking with a Mother – Short Story

Homeless MotherWhile they seat in their big houses, I’m wondering how to tell my children that we must move out of our tiny flat, and that I don’t know where we’re going to…

–    ‘Must we leave our friends? Must we change our school?’

They ask, and I feel like running away, but they have only me, so I have to stay.

I go to the powers that be and ask them for help. They don’t look in my eyes. They glance… Their head holds a PC inside, rather than a mind, never mind a human heart. They hand me a number to ring. And I do, so I can be lied to… I sense that their words might be far from the truth, so I start my own search online. The computer, seemingly a little more humane, tells me part of what’s to know. “You are on the waiting list – number 334. So, I go back to the ‘people’, and ask:

–      “Does this mean that you’ll help us move house?”

–     “No.” They say. “Don’t leave there – stay. When you’re on the streets – come back. Then, we’ll have a chat. There are many like you. You are not the only one.” Fine! I leave. “Next one, please!” I hear them yell. I feel like I’ll lose my mind if I stay. From now on, I’ll send letters or I’ll e-mail them.

I will work, at the same time, as hard as I can. Though, to rent a new small flat this job won’t provide. What else will I do? I will cry, sometimes. Not too much. I don’t want to drown… in tears. Then, I’ll work again just to pay the bills. I feel really tired – I’ve been lacking sleep… I can’t let them kill me though! I’m going to live! Yet, I bottle these fears and the pain. There’s a bottle of wine in my hand.

– “Why?” The interviewer asks.

– “Why wine? I’m cutting my chocolate down.”

– “No. Why bottle the pain? Why not talk to someone?” He smiles.

– “Oh…” She sighs.

Those who are comfortable want to stay comfortable. They say that they pray for me and my family while they seat in their big houses comfortably. Meanwhile, I wonder how to tell my children that we have to move, again… And, I cannot tell them where we’re going to… I don’t know… God knows. Oh… {She pauses} That’s right. He does. ‘Oh, thank you for listening’, she adds.

The interviewer smiles.

“I will put this wine away. I’m going to pray.”

She gets up and goes… Where to? Well… God knows.

Happy Mother's Day

Dedicated to all mothers - especially those forced to persevere
a lot more than others. You are amazing! Happy Mother's Day!

See You in Tomorrow.

.

I admit. I have made so many mistakes

I have twisted my life with my twisted ways

.

I did things before they should have been done

I run when I should have sat. I sat when I should have run.

.

There’s no way to turn back the hands of time

What is done already cannot be undone…

Till it can.

.

So, stop dragging me through yesterdays

The damage is done, but I’m not done yet

.

It is not too late – these are only delays

Did I tell you I knew the Maker of Days?

.

You too need to focus on how far you have come

And stop crying about how far you must go, so…

.

If you don’t plan to carry on – stay out of my way

Your fears have been slowly poisoning my faith!

.

There’s too much at stake. l must walk away…

Doubts can only take us back to our yesterday

.

See You in Tomorrow.

I Pray that I Meet You There.

Better, Faster, Stronger

There’s a type of pain that makes you cry

You might even feel like you’re going to die…

.

You’re looking for help, but there is no point

You’re feeling a pain no one felt before….

And the ones that felt it cannot give a hand

They’re too busy fighting their own type of pain

.

So,

Your mouth is now widely shut, but

Your eyes must be open – looking up…

There is God!

.

Suddenly,

You become better, faster, smarter & stronger

Your mind is much clearer, your body lasts longer

.Finally, you may rest… Finally!

.

And after the rest…

There comes yet another ‘friendly’ type of pain

Your growth must continue. It must start yet again ♥

One Must Do what One Can

Boy Afghanistan

ONE needs to pray, and do what ONE can

Day after day – ONE step at a time…

Too many sorrowful tongues fall upon too many deaf ears

Too many listen to voices designed for war and not peace…

Too many eyes stay widely shut, too few remain wide open

Too many dreams, too many lives have now been killed & aborted.

Too many painful words too many people are speaking

In too many broken homes too many children are living,

Too many do not even try because it takes ‘too much’ to make it

Rather than learn from the best – they stay busy envying & hating…

Is it far more tragic that too many die?

…Or that far too many do not have a life?

How many answers can one receive when so many questions arise?

Too many pages provide for so many – waaay too many whys…

Figuring out too many things consumes too many years;

Fixing one’s gaze on too many ‘too manys’

Creates too many tears & fears…😢

There sure seem to be too many truths, yet

Worth mentioning is the following one:

ONE needs to pray, and do what ONE can

Day after day – ONE step at a time… 🙂
