Poetry Reading – Collaboration with Desiri

Desiri and i 2Welcome back to “Love Don’t Fear” stories and collaborations 😊

“I saw her smile” is a story of a girl who keeps searching for love in all the wrong places. I have shared this poem before, but I’m super happy to present you with Desiri Okobia’s rendition of it. Desiri (aka Miss Dee) is the author of “Diaries of a Visionary” and an English Literature teacher. Currently, she is preparing to launch her new book – a wonderful novella I can’t wait to read. In the meantime, however, please enjoy “I saw her smile” as well as Miss Dee’s powerful delivery.

A while ago, I’ve had an encounter with a lady on social media (I don’t know her personally), but she had read the poem and started messaging me about it. She told me: “If you don’t remove this piece from print – I will sue!” She accused me of thoroughly researching her private life to share it through my writings…

Whaaaat?!

Well…

To some extent, this tale may indeed be “hers” – not because I knew about her experiences, but because it is timeless and universal, while the principles it bears are gender-less… Truly, this poem is about (and for) all the girls and women, in all the corners of the world, who ever felt like they needed to be in romantic relationships (bad or good) before they could be whole.

Having said that, I asked Desiri why she picked “I saw her smile” – she told me she simply liked the story. So, even if you’re not “a girl who never smiles”, I believe that you’ll enjoy the narrative within the poem. As always, you’ll find drama and pain and all that stuff here, but ultimately it is a one woman’s journey from darkness to light.

FYI, “I saw her smile” can be found in my recent Poetry Collection “Love Don’t Fear”, so please go ahead and pick it up on Amazon if you like what you hear.

Please enjoy the YouTube video below and let me know your thoughts.

Just don’t sue – I haven’t been spying on you 😊

If It’s Broke – Fix It: Poetry & Self-Publishing

Love don't fear Half Cover Amazon 12.04.18You may have noticed that I changed the title and the cover of my latest poetry collection. Ha… the book had only been out for a month… ‘Why did you do that?’ one could ask…

Well, that month was the driest month as far as my book sales, on Amazon, are concerned. Not only was this book not selling, but my first book “Do Lend Me Your Ears” took a significant hit too. While they might have been caused by a range of factors – those events were too time-correlated for me to ignore. So, I pulled the plug on “Poems about Love and Fear” ☹ And when I did – my first book sales spiked yet again. Boom! 😊 That was about 1,5 months ago…

After picking up the scattered pieces of my wounded ‘marketeer ego’ (not really), I’m back with a confession: I rushed the cover design and did not take enough time to consider the title. It was me…

I don’t write about Love and Fear as if they’re equal – they’re not… I write about Love overcoming fear, hence the new more appropriate title: “Love, Don’t Fear”.

About that cover… picturing a random couple kissing in the background of the red, red wine… I mean the red, red cover… One of my friends said that, at first sight, she thought she was looking at an erotic novel.👀 Well, the book’s about affairs of the heart, but there’s no direct sexual content in it. “Love, Don’t Fear” explores emotional battles and relationship lows. And then, the plot leads you to inspiring breakthroughs and solutions. That’s what you’ll find within its dramatic and captivating story-lines…

Change was needed, hence poems about love and fear are no more (though Google may not know that yet). The cover’s still passionately red, but the kissing couple is gone. The title no longer magnifies fear – it puts LOVE in its proper place…

Food for thought: If there’s a book inside of you – don’t be scared to write it and share it. You are not a failure if you don’t succeed at your first attempt. It just means that your story will gain a backstory… Gather more information, get all the help you need and go do it again! Just do it better, this time around.

I’m super excited to introduce my new (old) book: “Love, Don’t Fear” to You. It is available on Amazon now. The e-book will soon be available on my website too.

Check it out. Pick it up. Be entertained and inspired to love – not fear…

Excuses for Loving You – Poem

Colourful I love You Pic

.

I love you because when I told you to go

You said you would not and you didn’t budge

You are dark & sweet. You’re my favourite thing

Way ahead of chocolate – even chocolate fudge!

.

I love when you look at me like a little boy

Who’s just been presented with his favorite toy

Stimulating my soul in untainted liberation 😊

I like how you do it. Mmm, such a sweet sensation.

.

Many times, I wondered if our love was right

When our days were nights, and we saw no light…

Yet, after each storm He’s taken us through

I remember how much I love the essence of you.

.

They thought I loved you because I loved drama,

And I had become what they call a baby mama.

.

Some thought it was purely awe-inspiring sex

And I’d dread my future if you were my ex

…Looking at another girl like a little boy

Who’s just been presented with his favorite toy

Sad Face Dried Flowers

There may be a grain of truth

In all the above…,

But those aren’t the main excuses

For You being the One I love…

.

The main reason why I hope to love you forever

Is bullheaded trust that God joined us together.

Even when I feel like we’re going under –

I believe we have no right to put us asunder.

Quick! Before the Drama Blooms! Poem

Drama Trap Pic Final

They have seen too many fights

Teary days & weary nights

.

Respect, trust,

Communication

Seem like ancient arts

.

Instead, there are…

.

Fast flying arrows

By a rebellious Cupid

And mean accusations

Some way beyond stupid

.

Whenever she wins a battle

She knows she has lost

When she opens her mouth

Her heart becomes closed

.

She can’t hear his heart

He’s convinced he’s right

Every common goal forgotten

Overshadowed by pride

.

What are we doing?

Why do we fight?

Where are we going?

Where is the light?!

.

If there was a drama trap

She’d buy it – whatever the price

She would lay them all around them

Like the ones used to catch mice

.

If there was a drama spray

He’d spray it all over their rooms

He would spray before it comes

Quick! Before the drama blooms!

.

Yet, there sure is such a trap

Yes! There sure is such a spray

They remember the old battles

They decide to kneel & pray…

Daughter of the World – Poem

Poems about women

She was a daughter of the world, my dear…
Who else did you hope you would see her be?

She was a daughter of the world, you know?
Yes, you knew she was – she did tell you so

By the way she moved, by the way she spoke…

You said she was the one, then you took her home
Aware of who she was – the daughter of the world

So why would you blame her for your fall?
She was a woman of the world, after all…

You believed you could resist because you were strong

You engaged in her deceitful talk – a little too long

She was falling; of course she made you fall

Extremely fast and extremely low.

You opened the door of your universe for her
Wide open – to be torn apart as she entered there

She was a child of the SKY –
A beauty of the Beast, but you… came

From then – within His beautiful temple

Right into the present – un-covered… in shame

Your muse was nothing less and she was nothing more,
but a totally faithful daughter of the unfaithful world

‘Wahala’ was her name. ‘Wahala’ she was called

She was a daughter of the world –
With all her heart, her mind, her soul…

Set her free… Why won’t you, baby?

Set her free… …In Him…
She is no longer who she used to be.

Meaning of “wahala”: Trouble 😳

I Miss You – Poem

Miss You Pic

.

You’re happy & well, I hear

Yet, I miss you… I so miss you, dear

Yesterday, I was instructed not to show my tears

It has only been a week, but it felt like years…

.

Yet, I’m not allowed to say I miss you

They say if I speak I’ll offend a few…

‘You’ve got to be quiet. You’ve got to be strong!’

They say it so loud without saying a word

.

Yet, I miss you like

Flowers miss bees & bees miss their honey

I so love you like

Banks love their fees & like bankers love money

.

Boy, I miss you like

The world misses lies & like God misses men

And I love you like

Writers love stories & like stories love to end

.

My hands need your skin

My nose needs your smell

I miss you & miss you & it feels like hell

And I want to cry, and I want to yell

.

Yet, I stay silent, although true to me,

I just need to wait. I just need to be…

Without you, except in my memories

Hoping that I won’t have to wait centuries.

Story of a Broken Friendship

umbrella and girl

Once upon a time, a fine umbrella was left behind

It happened so fast, a man jumped on his train

Forgetting his fine umbrella

That had sheltered him from the rain…

.

Umbrella laid motionless on the station’s bench

Frightened it would be picked up & thrown in a trench

It was closed, no longer open, very very sad –

Unable to understand why life got so bad

.

It remembered the early days of flaunting its price tag

“Wait! You have forgotten me! I’m not in your bag!”

.

Questions and a guessing game forced it to contend

Yes, okay – during a strong wind I do tend to bend,

but I have been good to you. I am a good friend?

Could you please forgive me? I’m sorry I bend 🙁

.

Confused, emotionally drained,

Silence feels so loud…

The umbrella bursts in tears

Whilst its sadness turns to wrath

.

“I’ve been there for years & lasted through many a storm!

Why have you abandoned me?! Did I not conform?

Will you now exchange me for a friend that’s fake?!

You know how they are – tiny winds & they break!”

.

The umbrella’s heart was broken & needed to mend,

so it wrote a ‘goodbye’ letter never to be sent:

.

‘Though I’m truly sorry our love had to end

Thank you for our time together

You were a good friend

I pray the Sun shines

When you’re off that train

I pray you are not alone at the time of rain

I wish you another faithful and a solid friend

One that wouldn’t break, although it might bend’

.

The end.

.

Oh wait, wait, not yet…

.

A girl sits down on the bench to wait for her train

She looks up & thinks, ‘No doubt, it will rain.’

She picks the umbrella up, with joy in her eyes

She opens it up & flaunts it in front of the skies

‘I’m back in the game!’ The umbrella thinks & smiles. 😊

You’re the One

Smiley Emoji

.

Living in these mighty houses

Warm & sheltered from the rain

We spend precious moments striving

… for financial gain…

.

Then, we spend & waste, again

.

There’s not much we need,

There’s so much we want…

Many Lives are typed by strangers

In a fancy, heavy font…

.

We take so much space on Earth

Like the world’s page isn’t theirs

It belongs to us alone!

Let’s throw them a bone

.

In this land, if a man can’t hear,

a custom device is placed in his ear –

It restores the sense of sound.

So why there, on the other hand,

Cries for help are drowned out?

It’s a not so privileged land.

.

So why don’t we smile?

As much as we could…

We have stored a lot of wealth

Often, much more than we should…

.

Yes, the world is what it is

And we are what we are…

It takes one unselfish life –

Only One to raise the bar.

.

So, whose life will it be?

So, who is the One?

Finding God

lost found searching

You don’t just find God in Love, although

So many people like to think you do…

.

You find His Love break through our hate

You find him in joys, but more in despairs

.

You find him in pain and in rain

You find him at night and during the day

.

He is all the time. God is everywhere…

.

Yet, here is the most beautiful thing

About finding Him…

.

When you cannot find – you can’t even search

Your heart is too tired and too weak to care

He will find you…

.

Wherever you’re at…

In sadness, in pain,

In the storm, in the rain

He is there.
