Here she comes with strong legs,
Strong arms & her tough-skinned hands
Though they’ve never seen a gym…
Her brown eyes –
Too scared to look into their brown eyes
.
She’s assumed to be a mother of many
Shared by way too many, in her past
They assume & assume
With no courage to ask
“What’s your name?”
.
They have a box ready for her
They have a spot called ‘her place’
They say, “remember your rights”
They mean limits & lies
.
Why must she feel sad & shamed?
She knows she knows better, today
She knows where from & where to
She knows what’s false & what’s true
.
Her story is being written still
As we speak…
Choices of today are made
The future is on the way
.
It is a fight for her family’s life
And for faith – hers and theirs
It’s a fight for Love…
‘Let them think’ she thinks
‘I’ll stand firm within Him’
.
Their silence & gaze are loud,
But they are too dark
To outshine her light
To confine her mind
In their own confines
.
“We will make it!” She says
‘Right in front of their eyes’.
