‘What’s the time?’

red clockYears ago, I was randomly stopped by a man. Our initial conversation, initiated by the book I was carrying/reading (“The battlefield of the Mind” by J. Meyer), centred on how much can be accomplished through the power of the mind. He was a poet coming back from a poetry show, so we had many things in common. Soon after, following an exchange of telephone numbers, he called me to excitedly share his ideas of showcasing my work. Initially, I thought this would be a great chance to express myself on stage…

Later on, I began to feel quite uncomfortable though. His ‘advice list’ seemed patronizingly long. He kept referring to me as to his poetess even though I cannot remember expressing a desire to become that. Nonetheless, probably the most major thing that caused my concern was the speed with which he wanted to get me going.

While running at high speeds might get us places faster, it can also cause an emotional immunity to every day’s blessings. When in too much of a hurry – it becomes easy to ignorantly step on people and beliefs once held dear. It happens all the time in the name of career progression, irrespective of a field. The following is a potentially lifesaving hint, hidden within the chorus of a song “No fun alone” by Mali Music, “It gets called at the top – make sure somebody loves you… You can feel alone in the spot light – make sure somebody cares for you…”

Quite frequently, I tend to ask myself the following questions… Why do you do what you do? Is it to make this world a more beautiful place, or is it just to prove your gifts and talents? Do you do it because you’re called to do it, or rather in a pursuit of a materialistic/soulful satisfaction? Who is the source of your strength? What is the force driving you? Is it the force of love or ambition? At times, I find myself rather unimpressed by the answers… When my motives aren’t pure I often become frustrated about how much “needs” to be done and how slow the progress appears to be…

black clockNo doubt, there are times when you need to accelerate and use what you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. Otherwise, nothing will ever get done. Then, good intentions are not enough. No matter what it takes, and who says what, you go for it, so you do not miss your moment. Life is about moments… Still, there are probably many more waiting times in life… No doubt, the experience gained over the years should help to recognize the times to speed and the times to pause… Yet, at each stage, we can only truly know how fast our walk should be if our watches remain in tune with the Clock of the One who gave us legs for the purpose…

‘What’s the time?’

Is this the time to go go go go!?

There is a sign by this road yelling “SLOW!”

Is this the time to just go go go go!?

Is this the right one – this path we are on?

Is this the time to just go go go go!?

Or maybe, definitely this time is to grow?
